Effective Ways to Save on Heating Costs This Winter

Hello from Gimpo City Hall.
As winter temperatures drop, heating usage increases, leading to higher heating costs.
However, by simply changing a few small habits in your daily life, you can effectively reduce your heating expenses.
Today, we will share some tips on saving on heating costs this winter!
Maintain an Appropriate Indoor Heating Temperature (20℃)
The ideal indoor heating temperature in winter is 20℃.
Lowering the heating temperature by just 1℃ can save you about 7% on energy costs.
When adjusting heating based on water temperature instead of indoor temperature, it is advisable to set it around 55℃.
Especially in small spaces, it helps to initially raise the temperature and then lower it to maintain warmth, which aids in energy savings.
Be Cautious of Heat Loss Through Windows
Most of the heating in winter escapes through windows and gaps.
Proper window management can raise indoor temperatures by about 2-3℃.
You can attach weather strips or air caps to window gaps, and using thick curtains can help reduce heat loss.
Additionally, placing rugs or mats on the floor can block cold air from seeping in.
Ventilate Properly
To effectively reduce indoor humidity in winter, it's important to ventilate frequently but for short periods.
When ventilating, open multiple windows to allow for quick air circulation, and a ventilation duration of about 5-10 minutes is appropriate.
If ventilation is prolonged, the indoor temperature can drop excessively, increasing heating burdens and possibly causing condensation, so be careful!
What is the Energy Voucher?
The Energy Voucher program provides support to vulnerable groups to ensure they can enjoy a cool summer and a warm winter.
This government initiative allows eligible households to purchase electricity, city gas, and district heating.
The amount is distributed based on the number of household members and is only available to families that meet both income and household characteristics criteria.
It primarily supports low-income households, such as those receiving basic living assistance.
If you wish to apply, you can visit your local administrative welfare center or apply online through the welfare portal.

Saving on heating costs is not just about reducing expenses; it is also an important practice for energy conservation and environmental protection.
This winter, we hope you maintain an appropriate heating temperature and check your living environment for a warm and efficient season!
