Chagall (1887-1985) was a painter born in Belarus, active in Russia and France.
The title of this exhibition, 'Master of 20th Century Graphic Art, Marc Chagall', highlights the diverse world of Chagall's art.
Chagall left behind over 10,000 works during his lifetime, with around 300 pieces showcased in this exhibition.
In the first space, you will encounter works created using the printmaking technique.
Although Chagall is well-known for his oil paintings, he also created works in various genres, including prints and stained glass.
Unique prints, created as one-of-a-kind pieces, can also be seen here.
This particular print is made by quickly pressing wet paper onto an inked plate before the ink dries, resulting in a single print.
The exhibition also features illustrations created by Chagall for Longus's classic work, 'Daphnis and Chloe', which are being unveiled for the first time.
Reading the story of Daphnis and Chloe in the exhibition space and enjoying the 42 illustrations will enhance your understanding of the works.
As you enter the next space, you'll feel as if you've stepped into a circus.
Chagall loved the circus, which was a popular form of entertainment in 20th century Europe.
Born a Jew and living a nomadic life, Chagall resonated with the lives of circus performers.
In this space, you can see 38 illustrations from an art book he published on the circus, showcasing bold compositions and striking expressions.
You will notice similarities between a drawing study on the left and the lithograph on the right, which was based on that drawing.
Comparing the differences can add another layer to your appreciation of the art.
There are many stories and artworks waiting for your visit.
Regular docent tours are available on weekdays at 11 AM and 3 PM, and special lectures on weekends at 10 AM and 2 PM.
Make sure to take advantage of these opportunities to enhance your understanding of the exhibition.
Additionally, there is a discount for Goyang residents, so we hope you enjoy the cultural experience during the exhibition.
