Mammoth Bakery in Andong: A Cream Cheese Bread Pilgrimage (and a Near Miss)

When you think of bakeries in Andong, Mammoth Bakery (맘모스베이커리) immediately comes to mind. It's that famous.
Their cream cheese bread is a particularly popular menu item. And since it's close to both the Andong Chicken Ribs alley (찜닭골목) and the Grilled Ribs alley (갈비골목), it's a bakery that many tourists stop by during their Andong trip.
I actually visited Mammoth Bakery last summer, but they were completely sold out, so I left empty-handed.
So, this time I arrived around 1 PM after lunch, and the wait to buy cream cheese bread was insane.
Moreover, aside from cakes and cookies, only two kinds of bread were left. So, here's my honest review of my re-visit, which unfortunately, ended in disappointment.

Mammoth Bakery
Exterior & Waiting
After a delicious lunch in Andong Chicken Ribs alley, I walked to Mammoth Bakery.
I arrived at 1 PM, and the line for the cream cheese bread was already enormous.
I foolishly thought that there wouldn't be many people because it was raining.

They said that even if you wait in line, it takes more than 30 minutes to get to the checkout.
I gave up on the cream cheese bread immediately and went inside Mammoth Bakery, thinking I would buy some other bread.
This Andong bakery has been recognized by Blue Ribbon and Siksin (a popular Korean restaurant review site).

Bread and Cake
Unfortunately, only two types of bread were left: red bean bread and raisin rye bread.
It was only 1 PM, and there was almost no bread left.

Fortunately, my favorite red bean bread was available, so I picked one even though I was full.
I can see the people waiting in line outside through the window.
I was so disappointed that the shelves were empty.

I think I can only buy bread if I come on a weekday.
There were cookies and baked goods left, which are good for gifts.
You can also buy raw chocolate and bonbon chocolates.
The popular citron pound cake was, of course, sold out, and only slices of cake remained.

My child chose the mango cake.
Drink Menu
My husband and I were too full, so we didn't order any drinks, but my child ordered iced tea.
The prices are similar to those at coffee shops.
Straws, napkins, forks, and knives are available for eating bread or drinking beverages.

Interior & Food Review
Mammoth Bakery has a space where you can sit and eat.
A little later, the cake, bread, and drink we ordered came out.
The red bean bread had a lot of red bean filling, but the bread was also quite thick.
My child said the iced tea and mango cake were delicious and ate them well.

While we were sitting and eating, they announced that the cream cheese bread would be coming out soon, but customers inside would have to wait in line outside to buy it.
Nope. I'm not going to eat it.
The cream cheese bread that people wait an hour to buy is starting to come out.

It looks delicious because it's freshly baked, but I'm not sure if it's worth waiting an hour for.
I wish there was some other bread left.

Mammoth Bakery Review: A Bakery With An Enormous Wait
Did you enjoy it?
On weekends, even if you visit at 1 PM, there's almost no bread left, only cookies and cakes.
You should be prepared to wait for almost an hour or more for the popular cream cheese bread.
I couldn't bring myself to wait in the rain, so I didn't buy any, but the red bean bread was good.
If it's a weekend, visit in the morning, and I recommend visiting on a weekday if possible.
